Ash Tree Cottage - Access Statement

General

• The Cottage is all on one level, no changes in floor height anywhere
• The flooring is laminate throughout with just one rug in the lounge.
• The light switches are generally around 1000mm above floor level, therefore accessible from a seated position
• All the doors are latch handle operated, with the exception of the main entrance door
• Ash Tree Cottage has an audible smoke detection system and heat sensor only. If specific requirements are needed in the event of an emergency, please discuss this with us prior to, or on your arrival
• The most reliable mobile-phone networks in this area that we are aware of are Orange and Vodaphone
• Any information supplied by the proprietor of Ash Tree Cottage can be produced in large print if required. Please ask
• There is no public transport service to Ash.Tree Cottage. For information on wheelchair accessible taxi services, please ask
• There are paving slabs leading to non-slip ramped and level decking around the Cottage for easy access and manoeuvrability

 

Parking

• Parking is available directly outside the Cottage on a gravel surface. There is designated parking for this Cottage
• The parking surface is level
• Lighting outside the Cottage is good

 

Main Entrance

• he route from the parking area to the main entrance door has ramped to level access directly outside the door
• The door is manually operated with a lever handle. The double door opening is 1140mm, with the single door opening at 575mm
• The doors have full-length glass panels. Care should be taken by visually impaired people when using these doors

 

Lounge

• Manoeuvrability is reasonable. Furniture is moveable, so can be rearranged to create extra space or integration
• There is seating available with arm rests and back support
• A TV / DVD player is present, wall mounted with the use of remote control and Teletext facilities
• Colour contrast is good between walls and furniture and the room is bright and airy

 

Dining Area

• The dining area chairs do not have arms
• The height of the table from floor to the base of the table top is 630mm.  Raisers can be supplied if required
• There is one set of easy-grip cutlery available
• General lighting is good and colour contrast between the walls and furniture is also good

 

Kitchen

• Storage is accessible from a seated position
• The sink is set at worktop height of 920mm. There is no free space beneath the sink area, for wheelchair access
• The kettle is cordless and easy to grip and operate
• The microwave is located within easy reach on the kitchen worktop
• The oven controls are located at the front of the appliance. The oven door flips downwards
• The sink taps are lever operated with a mixer tap. Hot and cold is not easily identifiable
• The fridge is located on the floor and easy to access
• Freezer is located in the outside lean too by bbq storage area

 

Single bedroom

• The door width is 810mm
• There is an ajustable electric profiling bed in this room which has integral side rails and also elivates.
• There is storage available at range of heights including hanging storage accessible from a seated position
• There is a light switch reachable from the bedside
• There is a television/DVD player in the bedroom.

 

King room

• The door width is 810mm
• The height of the bed is 640mm, with a reasonably firm surface
• There is storage available at a range of heights
• Lighting is available at the bedside
• Manoeuvrability within the room is limited, however furniture is moveable and can be rearranged to suit
• There is no television in this room (see lounge)

 

Double room

• The door width is 810mm
• The height of the bed is 670mm, with a reasonably firm surface
• There is storage available at a range of heights
• Lighting is available at the bedside
• Manoeuvrability within the room is limited, however furniture is moveable and can be rearranged to suit
• There is no television in this room (see lounge)

 

Children’s room (bunk beds and 1 single bed)

• The door width is 810mm
• The height of the single bed is 520mm
• There is one bunk bed, with 2 sleeping spaces
• Manoeuvrability within the room is limited, however furniture is moveable and can be rearranged to suit

 

Accessible bathroom

• The bathroom suite is not significantly colour contrasted against its background
• There is a shower only available in this bathroom (see the standard bathroom section for details on the bath)
• The shower controls are positioned at a height of 1480mm and are easy to operate. Hot and cold directions are reasonably easy to identify
• There is a height adjustable shower head
• There is a shower seat available
• The height of the toilet seat is 480mm and there is a toilet seat raiser available
• The shaving point is located at the side of the sink and at a height of 1340mm
• The flooring is a plain coloured anti-slip surface
• Lighting is good within the bathroom
• The sink has a lever handle mixer tap
• There is a mirror viewable from a seated position and mirrored surfaces are kept to minimal use
• There are grab-rails alongside the toilet and sink

 

Standard bathroom

• The bathroom suite is not significantly colour contrasted against its background
• There is a bath only available in this bathroom (with a handheld shower attachment)
• The rim of the bath is at a height of 550mm
• The height of the toilet seat is 430mm and there is a toilet seat raiser available
• The shaving point is located at the side of the sink
• The flooring is a plain coloured anti-slip surface
• Lighting is good within the bathroom
• The sink has separate twist taps
• There is minimal use of mirrors within the room
