During
the construction of Ash Tree Lodge we were very concerned that
it should be a facility that everyone could use;
able-bodied,
elderly and wheelchair users. With this in mind we have taken
as much advice as possible and hope that you will choose to book
this disabled-friendly holiday accommodation in Wales.
|
 |
The
decking around the property is all ramped, as is the pathways;
the decking extends right up to the wide-access French doors
into the property. In some images it is sometimes hard to
judge size so we have included an adult wheelchair to give you
some idea; we hope this helps - please do not take offence.
|
 |
The front and rear of
the property is also laid with paving slabs. The
covered walkway is ideal, giving additional shelter, so
you can enjoy the views and fresh air without getting sunburned
or wet. There is a handrail which is also there for the elderly
to use whilst moving around outside the property.
|
The
living room and kitchen is open-plan and the hallway and doors
are also wide. There are two bathrooms; one has been constructed
with the disabled in mind. The living room table extends and we
have blocks to make it higher if necessary.
The
shower has no sides as the room has a completely sealed floor
so it's called a "wet room". The
shower is easy to operate and has a safety thermostat. The
shower, toilet and sink all have grab rails. We
can also hire additional aids if required: hoist, shower chair,
commode, bed rail etc. We have to book them in advance so,
if you do require them, please inform us as soon as you book
Ash Tree Lodge.

All furniture is manoeuvrable. Our prices are based on up to 8
sharing 4 bedrooms. However the playroom can be converted
into a 5th bedroom by prior arrangement. Either as a
Single room as below, a Twin room or a Double Room (sofa
bed) there is a small set up fee for installation and
removal. If over 8 persons booked there is a charge of £20
per person per night for the extra two quests.
|

|
The
other four bedrooms can also take a wheelchair; removing a
bedside table can give more room in both the King Bedroom and
the Double Bedroom - the latter being the larger of the two.
The bunkroom has 3 beds; a pair of bunk-beds and one single
which is accessible from one side for a disabled person. The
single room is also accessible for a wheelchair user who
may also require a hoist and is the only room to have the
added facility of a low wardrobe and drawers. We can supply
blocks to raise the bed if necessary; also a commode, shower
chair, stool, bed-pull/ladder. However, the electric hoist
has to be hired. We can collect it for you and have it in place
for your arrival.
|

Due
to special requests, an electric, hight ajustable bed with integral
side rails is now available and has been placed in the single room
in our Disabled-friendly Ash Tree Lodge. We have
a second standard divan electric ajustable bed (with optional side
rails) that can in special circumstancesalso be placed in the playroom
to make up a twin room for carer, or as a seperate single. Please
ask us about this if you require an alternative set up.

Whether you or a member of your family
are physically disabled or have an autistic child or autistic
adult who requires lots of space, this place is very special;
the views, the countryside, the birds, the big skies, all make for a memorable
holiday with those special people in your lives in which time, and every single
moment, is cherished.
Our goal is to Enable the Less Able and to encourage independence whenever
possible. So please come back to view this website again or call and speak to
Grace about your requirements.

Do
you need additional assistance?
If
you need additional mobility aids, i.e. hoist, commode/shower
chair, please call us so we can arrange this for your stay.
Most items free for you to use, but the electric
hoist has to be hired, you must provide your own sling.
Care Package
We can also now provide contact details for
you to arrange a
Care Package, if needed (by prior arrangement only) i.e.
an agency that is paid by the client to help with none medical care, assisting
guests with washing, dressing, getting in and out of bed and possibly night or
day supervision.
Transfer of care
If you are having a district nurse visiting
you at home for medical reasons this can be transferred by getting in touch with
our local surgery, to continue the visits whilst you are staying at Ash Tree
Lodge, we can provide contact details for you, for your own district nurse to
arranged this for you.

What our less able
users say:
Trevor
and family from kent
"An excellent holiday. I am wheelchair-bound, "MND".
Very good thought-out ideas for all, especially for the Disabled;
superbly equipped to feel relaxed and comfortable.
Glorious views always interesting, peaceful and enjoyable with the birds, animals
whose activities abound. "
Trevor has Motor Neuron Disease,
so he is quite restricted. He came down to the lodge with his family
and additional equipment was hired for his stay (hoist, shower-chair
with wheels). He was very content, as he had plenty of space for
his wheelchair. The decking with handrails enabled him to pull
himself to a standing position to look out across the fields. The
covered walkway around the lodge also provided him with shelter
when we had spells of rain, but still allowed him to be outside.
The bathroom facilities were commented on quite a few times as
it gave Trevor independence.
It was an achievement for us, as accommodation
providers, to see that all his needs had been catered for. It was
great having Trevor and his family at Ash Tree Lodge. We had fulfilled
our mission.
His favourite days out on his adapted tricycle-wheelchair
were the Llanelli Cycle Path and the National Botanical Garden
of Wales.
Andy with mum and dad from Reading
"Most enjoyable relaxing break - beautiful countryside, enjoyed
watching the birds and animals. Lots of superb places to visit within
easy drive. The Lodge cosy, comfortable and warm. Grace and family
very welcoming.
Looking forward to our next visit. "
Andy is a 41 year old 6ft autistic adult.
Ash Tree lodge for him was spacious, bright and had all the activities
he required for his stay, and the wet room (disabled bathroom) with
walk-in shower was great fun.
Sue
and family from the Netherlands
We
had a really lovely time staying at Ash tree lodge and had really
beautiful sunny weather all week, quite unusual for Wales in October
I am sure.
What beautiful countryside surrounding the lodge, I was up early
every morning to enjoy the sunrise over the fields, such a lovely
peaceful scene. I even managed to have breakfast sitting in the swing
seat on a beautiful sunny morning. We managed to visit some
lovely places, including Aberglasney gardens, Carmarthen, Llandeilo,
Neyland, St Davids, Brecon Beacons and Swansea and the Gower.
We found the lodge very suitable for the disabled, especially the
decking right around the house, the large living area, the adjustable
beds and the adapted bathroom was super. The kids loved the
trampoline.
Thank you for the wine and welsh cakes, they went down
a treat.
All in all we had a super holiday and we shall certainly
recommend you to friends and family"
